Although Chevrolet formally pulled the wraps off the 2019 Silverado 1500 in January at the Detroit auto show, the brand has kept mum on many of the model line’s powertrain details. Not anymore.

Starting things off is the tried-and-true 4.3-liter V-6. A carryover from the current truck, the pushrod engine once again makes 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque and comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It’s standard on the Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss trim levels. Those three also can be upgraded to Chevy’s 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horses and 383 lb-ft of torque. It, too, pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Moving up to the LT or RST trim brings Chevy’s all-new turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. Here again, the 5.3-liter V-8 is optional. All Silverado 1500s apart from the Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss trims team the 5.3-liter V-8 with General Motors’ new Dynamic Fuel Management system. The 5.3-liter is standard fare on the off-road-oriented LT Trail Boss and the luxury-line LTZ and High Country, where it comes with an eight-speed automatic. The latter two models can be optioned with a 420-hp 6.2-liter V-8, which also features the company’s Dynamic Fuel Management. The bigger V-8 engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 10-speed will also be available with the 2019 Silverado’s optional diesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. While Chevy is remaining mum on power and torque figures for this unit for the time being, it did reveal that the diesel will be available on LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country models.
