Cherry Grove Pier to partially open after damages caused by Hurricane Ian

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The Cherry Grove pier will reopen Friday at 11 a.m. for bottom fishing only, according to the manager of the pier, Edgar Stephens.

Stephens announced the partial opening on Facebook.

Fishing will only be allowed two-thirds of the way out and crews are still working to bring benches to the pier, so visitors are encouraged to bring a chair to celebrate the opening.

The Cherry Grove Pier has been partially closed ever since Hurricane Ian hit the Grand Strand in September 2022. The storm took a big bite out of the Cherry Grove Pier and left behind a trail of damage to sand dunes and trees. It also damaged many roofs, businesses and signage across the city.

Myrtle Beach State Park officials said a lot of damage happened to the support beams of the Cherry Grove Pier.
