Check out these St. Louis area solar eclipse parties

ST. LOUIS — Several school districts across the bi-state area are closing or dismissing early today so students and teachers can watch the solar eclipse. There’s a lot of excitement, and many places are hosting special events to celebrate.

In Illinois, people are heading to Rend Lake in Benton to start the day at 10 a.m. with a big event. There will be food trucks near the places where you can watch the eclipse, so no one will go hungry. Over in Belleville, Eckert’s Farm is having a fun party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’re planning to have live music, special shows, and snacks that fit the eclipse theme.

In Collinsville, the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau is throwing a party at Herald Square, located at 115 East Clay Street. They’re giving away free glasses that make it safe to look at the eclipse. The party starts at noon and goes until about 3 p.m. Also in Collinsville, you can watch the eclipse at the Cahokia Mounds, a historic site. The eclipse they’ll see won’t be a total eclipse, but it starts at 12:43 p.m.

Missouri has its own celebrations, too. The Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop, known for its space theme, is inviting people to a rooftop party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’ll have special drinks and food for the occasion. Downtown St. Louis’ 360 Rooftop Bar is also having a party with themed drinks and snacks from 1 to 3 p.m.

For those who managed to get tickets, the St. Louis Riverboat Cruise this afternoon offers a unique view of the eclipse from the Mississippi River, but it’s already sold out. Lastly, the Rock Hill Library is hosting a patio party with snacks from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
