Great Barn Brewery has a new spot in downtown Doylestown, where it opened this month as Puck Live by Great Barn.

The move spurs a new chapter for Puck, which had remained closed for more than three years before its music venue and outdoor bar were reinvigorated over the last year and a half with a pop-up garden bar and indoor concerts.

Continuing the tradition of live music at Puck is a natural transition for Great Barn Brewery, who started with its farm microbrewery in Kintnersville before following up with its New Hope and Warrington locations.

The Warrington taphouse, which closed suddenly in November, became a well-known spot for catching local bands and musicians, and why its owners, Maryana and Steve Ferguson, eagerly welcomed the chance to reopen at Puck on Printers Alley in Doylestown Borough.

“That’s the place for music in town. I think it’s very much what we were doing in Warrington. So, it was a perfect fit really,” Maryana said.

Puck Live by Great Barn is open Wednesday through Saturday, offering a schedule of events, including trivia night, open mic night and live music.

Its bar is fully stocked with 15 rotating taps of Great Barn’s craft beers and ciders, alongside a selection of local wines and spirits.

Currently, the kitchen is being redone, which they hope to open in April with plans. A patio project is also underway, remodeling the outdoor bar and kitchen, where they plan to serve burgers and crepes during the warmer months.

Puck Live by Great Barn is only one of the latest changes happening across the restaurant and bar scene around Bucks County area. Here’s what else is new:

Broken Goblet Brewery, Bensalem

The Mixing Room at Broken Goblet Brewery is now open. Run by Mutual Respect Brewery Collective — which consists of Broken Goblet, Trauger Brewing and Lucky Cat Brewing Company — the taproom offers its own beers, handcrafted cocktails, food and live music in a comfortable and stylish setting.

Plans for the space also include a new distillery and full kitchen, which are a few months away from being completed.

With The Mixing Room now up and running, Broken Goblet’s former taproom space will only be open for main stage concerts and private events.

Dog & Bull Taphouse & Kitchen, Croydon

Patience has paid off at the Dog & Bull. In an effort to accommodate its growing following, the restaurant has been undergoing a construction project that started in 2022 to expand its indoor and outdoor dining areas, along with the kitchen and bar.

Last month, The Tower opened, unveiling Dog & Bull’s new dining space, which features high ceilings, garage-style windows, reclaimed wood, stone and additional seating in a room bathed in natural light. A new patio is still under construction.

Thanks to the success of their barbeque food truck that quickly grew a large following since opening just last year, Chief 10’s Smokehouse opened its first brick-and-mortar takeout spot, serving up slow-cooked meats, with comfort foods like sliced beef brisket, pulled pork sandwiches and mac & meat bowls. And for a twist on a Philly classic, their menu includes a specialty cheesesteak, made with either beef brisket, pulled pork or pulled chicken.

Brown’s Doughnut and Pastry Co., which started in Dublin, has spread its wings into Chalfont with the opening of a second location this month. The locally owned bakery offers scratch-made doughnuts, bagels, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and locally roasted coffee drinks. Customer favorites include their classic White Cream Doughnut and their Old-Fashioned Doughnut.

Last month, Chris Saylor and Angela Heckman opened The Anchor at the Dublin Inn, a rebranding of the former Dublin Inn, a longstanding corner bar in the center of Dublin Borough that closed in 2019.

The couple did a full top to bottom renovation of the interior, made room for more dining in the back, and added two extra-large family booths. The new menu includes a full slate of offerings with craft cocktails and homemade specialties inspired by recipes from both sides of their family, such as Eggplant Napolean, their Calamaria Roast Pork sandwich and Chris’s Chili.

Magerks Pub & Grill, Langhorne

Magerks Pub & Grill — a family-owned restaurant with six locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina — is coming to Bucks County, with the opening of its new Langhorne location in the Summit Square shopping center.

Best known for its Philly cheesesteaks, jumbo crab pretzels, nachos and tempura pickles, Magerks serves up a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, wings, sandwiches, burgers, entrees and desserts in a comfortable sports bar setting.

HG Coal Fired Pizza, Doylestown and New Britain

HG Coal Fired Pizza, a local family-owned business with three locations in Warminster, Warrington and Chesterbrook, is opening two new shops this year in Doylestown and New Britain.

In addition to its coal fired pizzas — which recently caught the eye of David Portnoy who offered his viral “One Bite” review — HG also serves up traditional Neapolitan pizzas, calzones, strombolis, wings, grilled paninis, sandwiches, pasta dishes, steaks, wraps, charbroiled burgers, hoagies, salads, soups and kid-friendly options.

The Doylestown shop is expected to open this spring in the former Steak and Hoagie Factory building on South Main Street, which closed a little more than four years ago.

In New Britain, they are moving into the building formerly occupied by Forlano’s Italian Restaurant, which replaced Duck Deli before closing 2014. An opening date has not been set, but they are aiming for this fall.

Castillo’s Restaurant & Pizza Pub, Perkasie

Since Hawkeye’s Country Tavern closed in 2022, the building has remained vacant, but it appears that could soon change. Last month, a new sign went up for Castillo’s Restaurant & Pizza Pub and work on its interior had begun.

Honeygrow, Doylestown

Honeygrow, a casual quick-service restaurant known for its stir-frys, salads and honeybars, is coming to the Barn Plaza shopping center in Doylestown Township, taking the place of Starbucks, which closed last year.

This will be the third Bucks County location for the national chain, which began with its first restaurant in Philadelphia in 2012 and has grown to 40 additional locations across the northeast, including one in Quakertown and another in Langhorne.

Joining honeygrow at the Barn Plaza is First Watch, a daytime dining chain offering breakfast, brunch and lunch. Its menu includes juices, iced coffees, kid-friendly options, classic breakfast and lunch favorites and signature specialties, such as the Pesto Chicken Quinoa Bowl, Chickichanga, Million Dollar Bacon and Mint Mocha Iced Coffee.

First Watch will occupy the former Applebee’s site, as part of a redevelopment plan that involves demolishing the existing building to construct a new one, creating space for one restaurant and two retail spaces.

Neshaminy Creek Brewing, Harleysville

Neshaminy Creek Brewing, which currently has two locations in Croydon and Dublin, is adding a third taproom in Harleysville, its first in Montgomery County. The craft brewery will go into a portion of the former Harleysville National Bank building, as part of The Vault Town Center, an ongoing redevelopment project centered around a 7-acre mixed-use campus for dining, retail and offices.

The taproom will have about 84 seats inside, with plans for additional outdoor bistro seating, where guests can enjoy a variety of craft beers, including IPAs, ales, lagers, pilsners, sours and seasonals.
