Champaign County prepares for influx of kittens this spring

CHAMPAIGN CO., Ill. (WCIA) — In Champaign County, there’s a chance you may start seeing more kittens than normal.

Champaign County Animal Control says there are two main times cats will get pregnant — spring and fall. They’re preparing for the influx in felines by getting cages ready, litter boxes and enough food.

Animal Control Assistant Director Chelsea Angelo says the best way to stop the constant flow is to get your pets neutered.

‘What we walked into was something I had never experienced’: Nearly 120 cats rescued from Iroquois County apartment

“Probably going to see this season a couple of hundred cats and kittens coming through here, and that’s just our agency,” Angelo added. “So, other agencies will probably be seeing close to the same numbers, if not higher, and that’s probably on the low end.”

She says for anyone in the community who may want to help out, shelters are always appreciative of food, blankets and litter boxes donations.
