CCSD police K9s recovering after exposure to mix of illegal drugs

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two Clark County School District Police Department K9s were released from a local veterinarian hospital Thursday after they received emergency treatment for exposure to some illegal and dangerous drugs, the department said.

According to the CCSDPD, K9s Ace and Peppermint were assisting another law enforcement agency with a search warrant on Wednesday, April 4. While they were on location, clearing for drugs and weapons, both dogs were exposed to a “mix” of illegal drugs.

Ace and Peppermint’s handlers quickly removed the K9s and administered NARCAN, and both dogs began to show signs of recovery.

Both K9s were taken to a nearby veterinarian hospital, Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care, and staff there began emergency treatment upon their arrival. Ace and Peppermint spent the night for treatment and observation before they were released Thursday morning.

According to CCSDPD, both dogs will be relaxing at home for a few days before going back to work.

The incident was not on any CCSD property.
