Cape Coral police: 1-year-old toddler critical after near-drowning in pool Easter Sunday

A 1-year-old toddler visiting Southwest Florida from Michigan was taken to the hospital in critical condition Easter Sunday after his parents found him in a pool unconscious and not breathing.

According to an incident report from Cape Coral police, around 6:15 p.m. Easter Sunday, authorities responded to a near-drowning in the 2500 block of Southwest First Street.

Cape Coral firefighters, who according to the report arrived at the same time as police, began lifesaving measures and spoke with the child's parents.

Police said the couple told them they were visiting from Michigan, and as they packed their car, the mother realized the toddler was missing.

She told authorities she began searching for the infant and noticed the slider leading to the pool was open. She looked inside but didn't spot the child due to the flooring of the pool being dark, according to the report.
