The much-anticipated Canopy by Hilton Sioux Falls Downtown has announced it is slated to open its doors in October 2024.

Two industry veterans have been named to help lead the effort: Hristiyana Ralinova was appointed as general manager and Richard J. Fischer was named director of sales and marketing, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

The hotel has been under construction since August 2021 in the historic Steel District, near Falls Park and the Levitt Outdoor Amphitheater. This will be Canopy by Hilton’s first South Dakota property.

The seven-story, 216-room property will have an on-site restaurant and patio area, complimentary Canopy bikes and nearly 20,000 square feet of meeting and events spaces, which includes a grand ballroom with enough room for 750 guests.

Vice President of Lloyd Hospitality Group Jennifer Seifert-Brenna said this Canopy by Hilton location will be unique because other properties do not include a convention center.

“We have events on the books now from 2024 through 2026, including some conferences that literally take the entire hotel while they’re here, so we want others to come through and experience it and get excited about it,” Seifert-Brenna said according to the Steel District website.

Guests will be within walking distance of downtown attractions, restaurants and retail spaces, as well as views of the Big Sioux River.

In addition to the hotel, the Steel District will also feature a nine-story office building and a parking ramp with a retail wrap. Lloyd Cos. is the developer for the five-building area.

Sioux Steel Co. was founded in 1918 before it announced it was leaving Downtown Sioux Falls in March of 2018 to make way for the riverfront destination now called the Steel District.

Paying homage to its 100-year history, the hotel will incorporate doors made from Sioux Steel and nightstands designed with Sioux Steel yellow and the manufacturer’s logo. Photos, artwork and archived documents will also be displayed throughout the hotel.

As anticipation builds for the grand opening in October, Canopy by Hilton Sioux Falls Downtown stands ready to make its mark on the city's hospitality landscape, promising an experience that is as unique and dynamic as Sioux Falls itself.

The Canopy by Hilton downtown will be located at 120 E. Fourth Place near Downtown Sioux Falls. For more information, go to thesteeldistrict.com.
