Call the Midwife's 2024 Christmas special spoilers follow.

The official Call the Midwife social media account has confirmed filming is underway on this year's Christmas special.

It was announced last year the medical drama had been renewed until at least 2026, including a Christmas special coming later this year.

Fans got their first look at the festive episode on Monday (April 29), when the Instagram account for the show shared a sneak peek at the Turner family's Christmas decorations.

A caption teased: "It's happening!! We've just received the iconic clapperboard shot hot from the set of Call the Midwife, where our intrepid team have begun the first day's filming for the new Christmas special and the FOURTEENTH series!!

"And what better way to open up the new season than with the Turners Shelagh (Laura Main), Patrick (Stephen McGann), and their children May (April Rae Hoang) and Angela (Alice Brown) in the cosy festive Turner home."

The holiday special will take place in 1969, as the staff at Nonnatus House and their loved ones reflect on the decade changing into the 1970s.

Series creator Heidi Thomas teased: "After all these years, I still get butterflies every time I see the first clapperboard picture from the set. Series 14 is set in 1970, launching us into an exciting new decade. We can’t wait to bring you another season full of touching, exciting, emotional stories from Nonnatus House."

Fans recently got some other exciting news that Helen George will indeed be returning for season 14 even though it appeared her character Trixie had been written out in this year's finale.
