New businesses, housing growth increases in Topeka for 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka is expanding in new directions this year as seen in a recent growth and development report.

This week, the city’s latest Development & Growth Management Report was published for February 2024. It shows positive growth for both residential and commercial areas in the Capital City.

Looking back at February 2023, the report indicates total building permits rose by 41% from 61 to 86. Residential permits increased by almost 64% while commercial permits were bumped up by 8%. This is accompanied by a rise in the value of building permits by a little more than 31% from $26,258,733 to $34,455,574.

Topeka company makes ‘2024 Top Workplaces USA’ list

Housing growth is also on the rise, according to the report. Compared to February last year, 2024 has seen an increase of nearly 43% (from 7 to 10) for new residential building permits. Additions and alterations are also increasing by almost 80% (from 29 to 52).
