Bronx man charged with criminally negligent homicide in September crash in Orange County

TOWN OF CRAWFORD - A Bronx man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after the box truck he was driving allegedly crossed the street into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck in September 2023, killing the driver.

The charge is the result of a seven-month investigation by New York State Police.

According to state police, Marcos Medina, 34, of the Bronx, was driving a box truck east on Route 17K near the intersection of Youngblood Road in the town of Crawford on Sept. 23, 2023, when he allegedly crossed into the opposing lane and hit a westbound Toyota pickup truck driven by Gerald Filcher, 64, of Bloomingburg.

State troopers and investigators responded to the scene and found Filcher dead in his pickup truck.

After the seven-month state police investigation into the crash concluded, Medina was arrested on Thursday last week and charged with criminally negligent homicide, a felony.

He was arraigned before Middletown City Court Judge Theresa Cayton and released on his own recognizance, pending a May 7 appearance in Town of Crawford Court.

Medina was represented by the Legal Aid Society of Orange County. A representative of the society has not yet responded to a request for comment.
