Book Bus Summit held in Greeneville

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Book Bus Summit was held in Greeneville on Friday.

The Book Bus Summit, sponsored by the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF), aims to ensure all children have access to high-quality books and early literacy resources to support their education journey.

“We’ve increasingly found that the book buses can create an [exciting culture] of reading for children and families throughout the school year,” GELF Director of Programs Meredith Hilleary said, “Whether it be at community events, it might be at special literacy nights at school or with community partners like hospital systems library systems.”

The event featured Greene County’s two Magic Book buses and mobile book buses from counties in Northeast Tennessee.

Attendees were able to participate in interactive sessions, panel discussions and workshops.

“We have several counties from Middle and East Tennessee [joining] us here today to learn from our current book bus providers,” Hilleary said. “We’ll be sharing great ideas about ways to be successful in not only providing great services via the bus but finding those community partners that want to invest in a book bus.”
