Dothan murder victim’s mother frustrated as suspect in son’s death asks for bond

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — After being denied youthful offender one year ago, Solomon Cooper, one of three suspects in the death of Sincere Tyson, was in court trying to get a reasonable bond while claiming he was not competent enough to go on trial.

A Houston County judge considered the bond request and ruled out incompetency.

Tyson’s mother, Lerwanna Mcclinden found the court proceeding frustrating to sit through and viewed it as a waste of time.

“Unfortunately, they have rights as well but it’s the pure fact that as a mother I have to sit through these proceedings and hold my composure for what they did I didn’t do anything but one thing about it for sincere I’m here for it I’m not going anywhere,” Mcclinden said.

Cooper is charged with capital murder burglary in the October 2021 death of Sincere Tyson. Tyson was shot at least once while sleeping in his apartment at Abbey Oaks shortly after celebrating his niece’s birthday party at Doug Tew Park.

“Now every year when we celebrate his birthday that’s his death date and my oldest son has to live with this and be a father, and a husband and be the protector of his family, and when he celebrates his daughter’s birthday that his baby brother’s dead date my boy didn’t do anything to anybody,” She said.

Cooper along with Zycheria Russ and Jocaiah Harrell are charged with murder in his death.

“Every time they are in this courtroom I don’t care if it’s 20 seconds I’m in here,” She said. “He was loved and with their names tied to this, they are not ending his story.”

Mcclinden will be back in court on October 9th — the day her baby boy was killed three years ago, as Cooper will have a status hearing one of the proceedings before trial.

“Three years from now and I still don’t have justice I know the laws and the court system are slow but anybody going through this just don’t stop,” She said.

The judge will rule on the bond request shortly and Cooper’s trial is not expected until early 2025.
