Body found in irrigation canal

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A Grand Junction property owner found a body in their irrigation canal on Saturday.

Grand Junction Police officers responded to a report of a body found near the 600 block of 25 Road at around 12:30 p.m. The property owner was checking their irrigation canal when they saw the body and called the police.

The individual was declared dead on arrival and the county coroners were called in.

The coroner’s office did not find anything to indicate the death was caused by an act of violence. Based on preliminary information, officials believe the death may have been drug or alcohol related, but are waiting for toxicology results to confirm.

Any information about the identity of the deceased and the manner of death will be determined and released by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

Officials believe this to be an isolated incident with no further danger to the community. No further information is available at this time.
