Blue Grass Legion Post observes 75th year
The Iowa American Legion Post 711 in Blue Grass will hold its 75th birthday dinner celebration on Thursday, April 18, beginning about 6 p.m., a news release says.
The post also will recognize winners from Blue Grass and Buffalo Elementary School who entered the “What the Flag Means to Me” essay contest.
On April 20, Post 711 will host the Iowa American Legion 2nd District Conference at its Legion Home and banquet luncheon at the Blue Grass Community Center. The 2nd District is comprised of 46 Posts in Scott, Clinton, Jackson, Jones, Linn and Dubuque Counties.
It is the largest in Iowa with more than 5,600 members.
“Our mission is to enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness,” the release says.
The American Legion’s value principles are as follows:
