Bloomington protest: Scores of people rally Friday, a day after 33 people arrested at IU

Scores of people filled the sidewalks and streets near Bryan Hall on the Indiana University campus Friday morning, the day after 33 people were arrested in Dunn Meadow during a pro-Palestine encampment.

Speakers included IU faculty, students and others who were voicing their anger and frustration about the Indiana State Police and IU police who arrested people who refused to take down tents and canopies they had set up in Dunn Meadow. Some, including IU professor David McDonald, have been banned from university grounds. He spoke using a megaphone from across Indiana Avenue from the IU campus.

People were congregating on Friday afternoon in Dunn Meadow, and all appeared quiet, with chanting and prayers heard. Another possible damper on any more activity was the rain falling just before 3 p.m., much different from 3 p.m. Thursday, when police and protesters were facing off.
