Bill Christianson was elected the City of Milwaukee's new chief financial officer on Tuesday, easily defeating former Milwaukee firefighters union president Gregory Gracz.

With 100% of the vote in, Christianson received 64% of the ballots, while Gracz got 36%.

Incumbent Comptroller Aycha Sawa announced last fall that she would not to run for a second, four-year term, leaving open the seat as the city's chief financial officer.

On Tuesday, Milwaukee voters elected Christianson, the current deputy comptroller whom Sawa had endorsed for the seat she held for four years.

In announcing his campaign, Christianson pitched himself as "a dedicated public servant with deep roots in Milwaukee" and said he was running to safeguard the city's future.
