Best place to watch eclipse in Jacksonville? How about Solar Drive or Eclipse Circle?

While it’s true that any place with a clear view of the sky in Jacksonville is as good as any other for viewing Monday’s solar eclipse, there are a few places in the area with names that just sound right for watching the event, which begins at 1:47 p.m. and continues to 4:19 p.m., with the peak at 3:05 p.m.

Half Moon Island Preserve

The city-owned Half Moon Island Preserve is on 267 acres along the Nassau River off North Main Street and includes a boat ramp that opened in 2020.

Crescent Street

Runs between Lenox and Talbot avenues on the Westside. Jacksonville will not get a total eclipse, but a crescent-shaped one.

Eclipse Circle

Residential loop off Bartram Park Boulevard. Eclipse Circle intersects with Clearsky Drive.  There's also an Eclipse Drive in Clay County.

Luna Street

Runs for eight or 10 blocks between Highway Avenue and College Street on the Westside, passing under I-10. Luna Court runs off of Luna Street.

Moon Rise Court

To get to this one-block street in the Asbury Lake area, one must drive down Sunset Ridge Drive and Half Moon Circle. Clay County also has a Moon Harbor Court, Moonlight Drive and Shadowood Court.

Solar Drive

Short residential street off Bartram Park Boulevard.

Sunbeam Road

Busy road that runs between Philips Highway and San Jose Boulevard. Sunbeam Road intersects with Sunbeam Center Road. Jacksonville also has a Sunrise Drive, Sundown Drive and Sunset Street.

Sunny Acres Drive

Short residential drive in Magnolia Gardens neighborhood off W. 45th Street. Sunny Acres Drive intersects with Sundial Drive.
