Berne Union Elementary School receives Momentum Award for improved report card performance

SUGAR GROVE – Berne Union Elementary School has received the Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce for their results on the 2022-2023 report cards. The Momentum Award recognizes districts and buildings that have demonstrated outstanding improvement in achievement while also continuing to show growth.

“We are proud to be honored with an award that acknowledges the hard work of our dedicated staff and amazing students who strive for excellence every day,” said Melissa Drury, principal of Berne Union Elementary School in a news release. “This honor reflects the efforts of our teachers, administrators, and support staff in advancing student earning and success. We are excited to share this achievement with our community."

The Momentum Award is earned by a local education agency (LEA) that has improved its performance index by three or more points from the 2021-2022 report card to the 2022-2023 report card and received a value-added rating of four or more stars. Districts and buildings are not eligible for this award if they receive an overall rating of five stars.

In a letter to the school, Stephen D. Dackin, director of the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce said, “This remarkable accomplishment reflects your unwavering commitment to excellence and the outstanding services you provide to your students and the community. It recognizes the devoted teachers and staff who consistently go above and beyond, ensuring that all students receive exceptional learning and instruction.”
