Work begins on Delano/Chisolm Trail pathway

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Work begins this week on the Delano/Chisolm Trail pathway.

The project will install a 10-foot bike path, with pedestrian sidewalks between Exposition to Osage just north of Douglass Avenue. The path follows the former Missouri Pacific Railroad line through Delano, which once crossed the Arkansas River into downtown Wichita.

Landscaping, parking, and other amenities will be added along the path. A crosswalk will also be constructed at Seneca that will include traffic control lights. The path is expected to be completed in October, with the crosswalk at Seneca installed in early 2025.

Horton’s Furniture going out of business

During the project, side streets will temporarily close. However, the city says they will close one at a time during each phase of construction, and they will provide modified access to homes and businesses in the area during construction.

In the future, the pathway may eventually connect to the Prairie Sunset bike trail that runs from Garden Plain to South Hoover Road in West Wichita.
