Beacon recognized on national level for patient care

May 17—GRANGER — Beacon Health System has announced its selection by the American Hospital Association as one of just two healthcare organizations in the nation to be showcased in the 2024 "Telling the Hospital Story" initiative.

This recognition has provided the South Bend-based not-for-profit health system the opportunity to share stories and testimonials from individuals and organizations that have been positively impacted by Beacon's outstanding care and commitment to bettering the lives of those in our region with audiences across the country, a news release stated.

For three days in mid-February, the AHA and its film crew visited South Bend and Elkhart to capture firsthand stories from Beacon patients, caregivers, board members and community partners. Jennifer Armstrong Gay, AHA communications, said the team witnessed instances of genuine dedication, observed acts of compassion and interacted with caregivers who consider their patients as family for videos that will be released through the end of the year.

"Not only are the caregivers and team members at Beacon tirelessly committed to delivering high quality care for the patients and families they serve, but they are also committed to making a difference in the community, promoting health and wellness outside of the walls of the hospital," Gay said in the release. "We saw a health system that was invested in serving the health and social needs of its community, allowing residents to receive the health care and support they need close to home. Our nation's hospitals and health systems are guided by the mission of advancing equitable care and health improvement for all, and this is certainly true at Beacon."

As part of this national initiative, and especially during National Hospital Week that runs through today, the AHA is highlighting the resilience and commitment of hospitals and healthcare workers who steadfastly support our communities, even amid unprecedented industry challenges. The AHA also filmed stories at Dartmouth Health, based in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

"We were honored to have been selected to take part in a project that illustrates our dedicated commitment to patients and the community and showcases the transformative care we provide patients and families," said Kreg Gruber, Beacon CEO in the release. "No matter the challenges we face as an industry, our passion for patient care here at Beacon has never been stronger. Let's all celebrate National Hospital Week by sharing Beacon's story, honoring our healthcare professionals' dedication to Beacon's mission of delivering outstanding care, inspiring health and connecting with heart."
