The Fourth Annual Brushy Creek Arts and Crafts Festival, scheduled for March 23, will be co-hosted by Jefferson County High School’s Drama Club and its upcoming performance of an original play.

The festival, located at 6637 Highway 80 between Wrens and Waynesboro, opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. For the last four years this event, created by James and La’Shanta Barrow of The Naked Blacksmith, has invited regional artists and craftsmen from across the state, as well as local individuals and groups, to display and sell their handcrafted items and support area organizations.

The event will also have live blacksmithing demonstrations, face painting, food and drinks for sale, and the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance and be available for photos with children.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will support the JCHS Drama Club and its upcoming performance of The Grinch Is At It Again.

Jefferson County Middle School eighth grader Kinsley Melson, who also serves as the JCHS Drama Club’s president and student director, wrote the play along with La’Shanta Barrow, JCHS’s new drama teacher.

“We have pretty much all the Dr. Seuss characters in it,” Melson said. “Max, the dog from The Grinch, runs away and we’re trying to find out where Max is and so it’s a long, suspenseful chase.”

The cast and stage crew are made up of students from Jefferson County Middle and High Schools.
