Arkansas State Police investigating deadly Sunday shooting in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. – The Arkansas State Police are investigating a weekend shooting in Jefferson County that left one person dead and another injured.

According to ASP officials, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9200 block of Highway 79 around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday to find two people who were shot inside a vehicle.

Police said one of the victims, identified as 31-year-old Kavon White, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner. The other victim was taken to a local hospital and has since been released.

The JCSO then requested the ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the shooting.

Authorities said White’s body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab where the manner and cause of death will be determined.
