Archdale man hits patrol car head-on

Apr. 16—GUILFORD COUNTY — An Archdale man driving the wrong way on Interstate 73 near Piedmont Triad International Airport collided head-on with a Guilford County Sheriff's Office deputy Monday night, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said.

David Brown, 79, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, pulling a utility trailer, north in the southbound lanes of I-73 about 7:55 p.m. near the N.C. 68 interchange when he hit a 2023 Dodge Charger marked patrol car driven by Samuel Hunt Lankford, 28, of Greensboro, the Highway Patrol said.

Both Brown and Lankford had minor injuries, the Highway Patrol said. Brown was taken to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Brown was charged with driving while impaired, driving the wrong way on a highway and careless and reckless driving, the Highway Patrol said.

All southbound lanes of I-73 near N.C. 68 were closed for about one hour during the investigation.
