Amy Dowden reveals Kate sent message of support to her amid cancer battle

Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has shared the message of support she received from the Princess Of Wales while undergoing chemotherapy.

The professional dancer has been candid about her breast cancer battle, revealing she first found a lump in her breast the day before going on her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones last May.

She was subsequently diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and had a mastectomy before undergoing chemotherapy, which she has now finished.

Speaking on Wednesday's Loose Women, the Welsh star told the panel that she met the royal while she was being treated for breast cancer last year.

She added that she “doesn't want anyone” to go through a battle with the disease, after Kate publicly shared her cancer diagnosis last month.

Dowden said: “I was lucky enough to meet [Kate] during my chemo treatment, and she gave me so much time. She was so kind. Actually, her words were, ‘Let us know if there's anything we can do.’

“Just knowing that she's finding out that she has to have chemo and knowing what you have to go for.

“Emotionally, my family, whilst I was going for treatment, I don't think my parents slept.”

She added: “I can remember getting the news, and my sister saying ‘Oh, dad will sleep tonight now’. I could see in their eyes, the pain in their eyes.

“I can't tell you how many times my parents would say they would do anything to take it away from me or them to have it instead of me.

“My mum's had cancer twice and it's just the thought. [Kate] has to go through it in the public eye and she's got three young children. I don't want anyone to go through it, it's still very raw to me.”

Dowden’s comments comes weeks after Kate, 42, announced her cancer diagnosis after undergoing abdominal surgery in January,

In the emotional video, which was filmed in Windsor, the royal revealed the news had come as a “huge shock” and that she and William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family”.

She said: “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

The shock health news follows the King’s diagnosis with cancer, with the condition discovered during his recent hospital treatment.
