Amphitheater over arena testament to Leeser’s leadership

Mayor Leeser,As the opus magnum to your eight years in office, please proceed with construction of the amphitheater in back of the historic Union Depot. The diminishing of the project from a voter approved modern arena to a second-rate amphitheater will be a befitting monument to an administration who ensured that civic optimism quickly receded in a quest for mediocrity.

The blaring train whistles interrupting performances will be a regular reminder of the interruption of progress during your two terms as mayor. Also, please ensure that as the Haskins Center visitors are greeted by the legendary Don Haskins, that visitors to the amphitheater are greeting by a bronze statue of a smirking Max Grossman holding Houstonian’s JP Bryant’s checkbook as an immortal reminder of who to thank as El Pasoans ask why we can’t have nice things.

Consider placing Brian Kennedy in charge of facility maintenance at the amphitheater as a half-baked facility only requires half-baked maintenance and the El Paso County Coliseum certainly sets a standard Kennedy is familiar with. Finally, the slapdash siting of the facility behind the depot will result in public safety woes and ingress/egress chaos that should serve as an admonition that communities do not succeed without bold vision, execution and leadership.

Fix the arena problem, don't make a bigger mess

In hopes that another 10 years doesn't rear its ugly head and finally put the downtown Muti-Purpose Center, here is an idea that will satisfy most. For sure not the train Depot but just down the road is the Asarco area, not doing anything. The site has been useless since 2013.

We have destroyed the City Hall, destroyed the Downtown area and if not for the daily work life downtown is not doing very well. Asarco is an easy fix, plenty of land and in addition, we could build an atrium that makes real food, veggies.

Fix the problem don't make a bigger mess.

Protect your children

The couple arrested for allegedly brutalizing their 6-month-old child cannot, should not, ever be allowed to be in the same room as that child.

There are a few things that people are responsible for as parents: shelter, nourishment, nurture, education. Additionally, protect your progeny from mental, emotional and physical harm until they are able to fend for themselves.

If found guilty of these mindless, atrocious, unconscionable acts these two should never see the outside of a prison cell.

A salute to Greer on 100th birthday

I read an article online about Edward Greer, a retired U.S. Army major general living in El paso.I am a retired U.S. Army Vietnam vet like Greer. I would like to send a thank you and a salute to the general. The last general I knew was Omar Bradley.

We are not forgotten. I am 77 you’re 100, it's been great.
