Alleged serial retail thief arrested after leading police on chase in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A woman with extensive shoplifting and theft history was taken into custody Tuesday after police said she led officers on a high-speed chase.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), detectives spotted 43-year-old Sherica Lewis getting into the driver’s seat of a Mazda that was parked on 11th Avenue South on Tuesday, April 30.

Detectives said Lewis, who was wanted on 11 outstanding warrants from Davidson County, was seen traveling through a red light at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Second Avenue South.

Court documents state that officials initiated their blue lights, but instead of stopping, Lewis fled at a speed of up to 90 miles per hour along Shelby Avenue.

According to MNPD, detectives successfully deployed spike strips and Lewis was taken into custody without further incident.

Officials said Lewis traveled through “multiple red lights and intersections nearly colliding with motor vehicles and pedestrians” amid the pursuit.

According to court documents, Lewis has been involved in a series of retail thefts throughout 2024. In some of incidents, more than a thousand dollars of merchandise was stolen.

  • Jan. 5: Lewis and a child are accused of leaving the Home Goods store in the 8100 block of Sawyer Brown Road with $130 worth of pillows.

  • Jan. 9: Three women, including Lewis, stole approximately $704 worth of items from Ulta Beauty on Sawyer Brown Road.

  • March 11: Lewis and another unidentified woman allegedly went to Ulta Beauty inside the Mall at Green Hills. Police said the duo was inside the store for approximately seven minutes before leaving with three Dior fragrances and two hair straighteners, totaling $770.

  • March 29: Employees at the Sephora located inside the Mall at Green Hills provided officers video footage, which showed Lewis and another woman stealing from the store. According to store employees, they stole at least 17 Dior skincare products, totaling $1,457.

  • April 2: Three women, including Lewis, entered Sephora at the Mall at Green Hills around 5:30 p.m. and left with 13 Dior brand items, totaling $1,005.

Lewis was booked in the Metro Jail on Wednesday, May 1 and faces 14 charges including felony theft, evading arrest, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She remains jailed on a $147,000 bond.
