Alleged drunken driver held to answer on all charges in double-fatal crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 49-year-old man accused of driving drunk in a crash in August that killed two people has been ordered to stand trial on all charges brought against him, court records show.

Luis Esquivel-Muro had a preliminary hearing Wednesday in which it was determined there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed on two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing injury and driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI.

The crash occurred Aug. 17 at the intersection of California and Chester avenues. An investigation determined a sedan was traveling northbound on Chester Avenue and a pickup westbound on California Avenue when they collided at the intersection, police said.

Peter Preciado and Justina Marie Alston, the driver and passenger of the sedan, were fatally injured.

Esquivel-Muro, the driver of the pickup, was arrested after police determined he was under the influence of alcohol, police said.
