Albuquerque man takes plea deal in crash that injured pedestrians

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A driver, suspected of being under the influence of narcotics, was able to avoid DUI charges during a plea hearing on Tuesday. In August, Joshua Martinez was arrested after fleeing the scene of an accident near Central and Alvarado where two pedestrians were hit. Investigators found prescription drugs that Martinez was not prescribed inside his vehicle. They also say he changed his tire, damaged in the crash, to avoid detection.

On Tuesday, Martinez pled no contest to tampering with evidence and leaving the scene of an accident. In exchange, the state dropped charges of driving on a revoked license, great bodily harm by DUI, and possession. A sentencing date has not been set.
