Aiken tire store catches fire, building destroyed

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Aiken fire crews are on the scene of a major structure fire.

The blaze is at Jack Rogers Tire Pros at 1724 Richland Avenue East.

According to the Aiken Department of Public Safety, all 4 lanes of Richland Avenue are back open.

According to the company’s website, the Rogers family has been serving the Aiken Community for more than 60 years.

Captain Marty Sawyer with the Aiken Department of Public Safety says a couple of their guys were at headquarters, looked over that way and saw the glow from the fire.

“When they arrived on the scene, about 50 percent of the building was in flames. Fire was coming through the roof in about 50 percent of the building. They started an attack, called in more manpower, called in several more volunteer fire department. All utilities to assist with it and at this time the fire is under control,” Capt. Sawyer said.

No word yet on what sparked the blaze or if there are any injuries.
