Afrotaste closing its doors in Lewiston after just one year

Apr. 24—LEWISTON — Afrotaste Restaurant and Lounge at 134 Main St. opened its doors last May to much fanfare, filling a niche for alternative venues for entertainment and food with its African flare and East African fare.

But the former Pedro O'Hara's space will go dark once again, according to the Afrotaste 207 social media page. It is closing Sunday.

"Due to multiple determining factors, it has become impossible for us to keep the business going in the same location," the post from Tuesday morning states. "We treasure the shared experiences with you and appreciate your patronage greatly. We hope to reopen our doors again in a new location this summer."

It does not state when or where it plans to reopen. The Buzz reached out to the management team for more answers but did not hear back. Bernard Katende is the restaurant's manager and Gael Karomba is the owner.

The venue offered lunch and dinner and turned into a music and dance club in the evening.
