Academy D20 on two hour delay Thursday for outage

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Academy District 20 will be on a two hour delay on Thursday, April 25, due to a telephone and internet outage.

According to the district, staff will need extra time to prepare for their day without phone and internet.

The district said all students should report to their respective schools in person two hours later than their usual start time. Staff are to report to schools at their normally scheduled times. Internet access will be limited during school hours.

“Essentially, this will be a paper and pencil student contact day, unless internet operations are restored,” the district said.

The outage was intentional, the district said, as part of a “cybersecurity response protocol.” District staff are working through the evening to “remedy the issue,” the district said.

As a result of the outage, certain operations will be impacted:

  • Transportation: Bus arrival and dismissal will be conducted in the normal 2-hour delay method.

  • Meals: Sodexo will operate lunch, but their point-of-sale system will not operate, meaning students cannot purchase a la carte items. Breakfast will not be provided.

  • Testing: Students will not participate in testing on Thursday given that the district will not have access to the internet. The district asks families to plan for testing makeups on Friday, April 26, 2024.

“We recognize this is a major disruption, and not ideal. We apologize for the inconvenience, and our teams will continue working around the clock as we seek to return our operations to a normal status,” said D20.
