Above average warmth and mostly quiet for now
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah — and happy Earth Day!
Earth Day originated back in 1970 and is recognized by over 190 countries worldwide. Earth Day was part of the inspiration for the EPA. Each year is a different theme, and this year is planet vs. plastics.
Above-average warmth continues, with limited moisture moving through
Weather-wise, it’s going to be a pretty nice Earth Day. In northern Utah, it will be a little cooler compared to what we had yesterday thanks to a weak front sliding through. Temperatures will still be above average, but instead of more than 10 degrees above average, we’ll be more-so in the five to 10 range with 60s and 70s for most.
In southern Utah, daytime highs will be similar compared to what we had yesterday, with 70s and 80s for most. For the second day in a row, we could hit 90 degrees in St. George.
Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy across the state, but from this afternoon into the evening a few isolated pop-up showers can’t be ruled out. Any showers will favor central Utah — however, a few could sneak northward to the I-80 corridor.
We won’t see too many changes in our weather for our Tuesday, as it will just be a fraction warmer in northern Utah. By Wednesday, we’ll be looking at temperatures that run more than 10 degrees above average for most of the state as the Wasatch Front returns to the mid and upper 70s under mostly sunny skies.
By Thursday, our next storm system will be moving in from the west. This storm will help drop temperatures a bit from early in the week and deliver a chance of scattered showers across northern Utah and isolated showers down south.
By Friday into Saturday, a trailing system coming in from the northwest will result in what will likely be a better chance of showers statewide with even cooler temperatures. By Saturday, temperatures will likely run a little bit below normal.
However, even with the drop in temperatures, we’ll mainly see valley rain and mountain snow. Wet weather potential may hang on through the weekend before we look to dry things out and begin to warm things back up by early next week.
