Thousands of PG&E customers lose power in South Bay

(KRON) — Thousands of PG&E customers lost power in the South Bay on Tuesday night after a vehicle slammed into a power pole, according to the utility company.

The outages were in the area of San Jose’s Alum Rock neighborhood. They were reported to PG&E at about 7:30 p.m. after a vehicle struck a power pole at Gay Avenue and N. Capitol Avenue.

PG&E’s outage map reported that more than 7,500 customers were without power. By 11 p.m., the total number was 5,484, the power company said.

PG&E told KRON4 that the power is expected to be restored between midnight and 1 a.m. Wednesday.

There was a separate outage in the Bay Area on Tuesday morning when thousands of PG&E customers in San Francisco lost power. An underground cable was the root of this outage, which primarily affected the city’s Presidio area. As many as 7,860 customers lost power.
