6 tips to keep your car clean, protected during North Carolina’s pollen season

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Pollen is blanketing everything this time of year, so we want to help you avoid spending too much at the car wash with a few tips.

According to The Car Place NC, pollen can cause damage to the car’s interior and exterior with its acidic effect. It offered these six tips on how to protect your car from pollen.

  1. Park inside

  2. Rinse & wash
    – Pollen is so small and can hide in every nook and cranny.
    – Take your car to a car wash to ensure all of the small particles are out of areas you can’t see

  3. Wax your vehicle
    – This adds a protective layer to your vehicle and could prevent pollen from sticking.

  4. Check your filters
    – Your engine filter collects dust, debris, and pollen. The cleaner the filter, the better the vehicle will run.
    – The Car Place NC said having an expert technician check your engine filter is best. It’s recommended to replace the engine filter every 15,000-30,000 miles.

  5. Replace your Interior Cabin Filter
    – Keep the air in your car clean and easier to breathe by replacing the cabin filter.
    – The Car Place NC says this is especially important for people with allergies.
    – It also helps to reduce the layer of yellow film that can appear on the inside of your car.

  6. Clean your wiper blades
    – Pollen can build up and become a paste on wiper blades.
    – The paste can spread across your windshield, so clean your wipers once a week by running a paper towel along the blades.

Lastly, take it easy on your vehicle while washing. Too much washing and pressure can cause paint to chip off the vehicle. A car expert can help prep your vehicle of the season changes and extend its life.
