6 displaced in fire to Suffolk home

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Six people were displaced following a fire to a home on St. James Avenue in Suffolk, a city fire official said.

The call for the fire in the 400 block of St. James Ave. came in at 7:57 p.m. for a residential structure fire and when they arrived seven minutes later, they found a small fire in the kitchen, the fire official said.

The fire damaged the stove and extended to kitchen cabinets.

The home’s residents made it out safely before fire crews arrived.

The American Red Cross is helping two adults and four children that were displaced due to the fire.

No one was injured, and the fire was determined to be accidental.
