5-year-old dead after Blount County crash

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A five-year-old child was killed during a crash that happened on Monday morning.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), a 2014 GMC Yukon, the child was a passenger in, left the roadway, hit a ditch, and overturned into a creek.

Troopers say that the child was unrestrained during the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. According to ALEA, the child is from Lokust Fork.

The driver of the Yukon was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was injured and transported to the UAB hospital for treatment.

The crash happened on Alabama 79 near Peyton Lane, nearly four miles south of Locust Fork, in Blount County around 6:10 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
