45th annual Crescent City Classic returns to New Orleans this Easter weekend

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Crescent City Classic returns to the Big Easy this Easter weekend.

The 10-kilometer race has been a tradition in New Orleans for the past 45 years, and since 1979, it has always happened on the Saturday before the Easter holiday.

The Crescent City Classic Foundation invites anyone, from world-class runners to joggers, walkers, wheelchair athletes, and even kids in strollers, to participate.

New Orleans Pride Center to open Tremé location

Participants are encouraged to either go the 6.2 miles alone or with a team, in workout gear or in costume.

The event also doubles as a fundraiser, and each year attempts to raise $1 million to support local charity partners.

The starting line is in Downtown New Orleans in front of the Superdome and runs through the French Quarter, up Esplanade Avenue and on to the finish line located inside New Orleans City Park.

In the end, everyone receives a medal for completing the race.

The events leading up to the big race are packed with fun, according to event organizers.

New Orleans Pride Center to open Tremé location

The weekend includes a two-day Health and Fitness Expo that is open and free to the public.

Following the race is a post-race party complete with live music from local bands and New Orleans cuisine. This event is open even if you did not participate in the race.
