6 wanted for armed robberies, assaults in Midtown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police need your help looking for multiple suspects they say are responsible for carjacking people at gunpoint in Midtown and using their Cash App cards.

Shortly before midnight on April 14, officers responded to a carjacking in the 900 block of New York Street in the Cooper-Young area.

As a woman was getting items out of her back seat, she told police was approached by a man with a gun. He made her lie on the ground while he took items from her pockets.

Another man came and got inside her 2019 Dodge Charger. He sped off, followed by others in a Kia Soul, police said.

MPD says the suspects used the victim’s Cash App card to buy items at a corner store.

Arline Jernigan lives right across the street from where the carjacking happened. She says thieves have been known to target that neighborhood.

“My house was hit too once. You know, recently,” Jernigan said. “They busted out the back window. Nothing was taken.”

On April 20, officers responded to a carjacking at Avalon and Monroe Avenue in Midtown. Six people with guns ran up behind the victims as they were getting into their vehicle.

The gunmen pointed their weapons at the victims’ heads and demanded their car. Once the victims got out, the suspects took their cell phones and purses, police said.

Two of the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s 2018 Mercedes Benz. The others left in a Kia Soul.
