3M recalls 40,000 noise-reducing earmuffs

(WHTM) – 3M is recalling approximately 40,000 noise-reducing earmuffs that could crack, leading to potential overexposure to loud sounds.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled 3M Peltor X4 Series Earmuffs were produced from March 2020 through September 2022 and sold nationwide.

“3M Personal Safety Division is issuing a Stop Use and Recall Notice to customers,” the Minnesota-based company stated in its recall announcement.

An additional 6,700 units sold in Canada are also subject to the recall.

The earmuffs, used to reduce noise in “industrial and occupational applications,” are black with green or orange accents and are available in a variety of attachment styles, including over the head, behind the head, hard hat-attached and full-brim hard hat-attached.

No injuries linked to the recalled earmuffs had been reported as of Thursday.
