27 indicted for felony drug distribution in Lee County, Virginia

LEE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Lee County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office and Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced that deputies are working to arrest 27 people charged with felony drug distribution in the county.

A Monday news release from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office states a Lee County grand jury recently met and returned indictments for each of the 27 defendants.

The charges stem from a large-scale investigation that included the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Southwest Virginia Drug Task Force and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

“The individuals involved in this operation have engaged in the distribution of methamphetamine or fentanyl,” Sheriff Parsons said in the release. “I appreciate the hard work of all our officers, investigators, and prosecutors in developing the evidence necessary to bring these charges and to put those who profit from poisoning our community with drugs where they belong: in jail. I look forward to seeing each defendant now face the consequences of their actions.”

Lee County Commonwealth’s Attorney H. Fuller Cridlin said the arrests will help disrupt the spread of fentanyl and meth in Lee County and the surrounding area.

“This operation is a testament to the hard work and determination of our local officers and prosecutors,” Cridlin said. “Their relentless pursuit of justice and commitment to protecting our communities have led to significant arrests that will disrupt the distribution networks of methamphetamine and fentanyl in our area.”

The release states the operation is ongoing and more details will be provided as they are available.
