2024 Mentoring Award given to Georgetown Assistant City Manager

GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — The Texas City Management Association (TCMA) has awarded the 2024 Mentoring Award to Georgetown Assistant City Manager Laurie Brewer.

In a recent statement, City Manager David Morgan accredited much of the city’s success to Brewer’s impact on others.

“Laurie is the type of local government leader we all strive to be,” Morgan said.

According to TCMA, the mentoring award “recognizes a city management professional who has made significant contributions in the development of new talent and who has designed and implemented outstanding career development programs for local government employees.”

Brewer served as the director of finance in Hutto for three years before joining the City of Georgetown in 2009. She currently oversees the finance, water, parks and recreation, library and customer care departments.

One of Brewer’s team members, Jack Daly, nominated her for the award. Daly is the Georgetown Assistant Public Works Director. He highlighted Brewer’s uniqueness and said the city is blessed to have her.

“Most people who are successful in a town of 15,000 people don’t find the same success in a town of 80,000,” Daly said. “Many of her proteges can attest to her quiet but powerful leadership style, as well as the seemingly effortless ease in which she can bring disparate groups together to seek common goals and drive continual improvement.”

The Mentoring Award is one of the most prestigious accolades given to city managers in the State of Texas. The purpose of the medal is to recognize outstanding individuals who have significantly impacted local government.
