2018 BMW 4-series Coupe and Convertible: Just a Little Nip and Tuck

After receiving new engines and a new nomenclature last year, the BMW 4-series benefits from some more surface-level changes for 2018. Still available in turbocharged-four-cylinder 430i and turbocharged-six-cylinder 440i variants, the two-door 4-series lineup (along with the four-door Gran Coupe and the M4) also gets mildly revised chassis tuning.

If we’re being honest, the tweaks to the exterior are barely noticeable. The LED headlights and LED taillights are new, and are accompanied by subtly restyled front and rear fascias. There are also new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs and two new fetching exterior colors: Snapper Rocks Blue and Sunset Orange. BMW also says that it has added more chrome and gloss-black trim to the interior, along with newly available upholstery colors and cabin trim choices. It also has revised the menu logic for the available navigation system.

Regardless of whether buyers choose the standard suspension or either of two carryover packages—the M Sport setup or the adaptive suspension available with the Track Handling package—the coupe’s suspension is said to be stiffer than before (the convertible’s is unchanged). BMW also claims that the steering is more communicative; of course, we’ll have to sample the updated car for ourselves to verify that.

Expect the refreshed 4-series to reach dealerships in March, with pricing unlikely to change much from the current $43,145 and $51,295 base price of the 2017 coupe and convertible.
