2 women dead, another serious after dump truck crash in Northwest suburbs

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — Two women died Wednesday morning and another is in serious condition following a crash in unincorporated Wauconda.

The crash happened at around 8 a.m. near Fairfield and Chardon.

Police at the scene found major damage after a 2007 Nissan Versa and a dump truck.

Officers believe a dump truck, driven by a 44-year-old man, was northbound on Fairfield Road approaching Chardon.

The Versa, driven by a 48-year-old Waukegan woman, was traveling westbound on Chardon near Fairfield. Police said the Versa entered the intersection, directly in front of the dump truck.

The front of the dump truck struck the driver’s side of the Nissan and then rolled onto its side — spilling a load of concrete.

The 48-year-old woman driving the Versa was pronounced dead at the scene. A back seat passenger, a 55-year-old woman from Round Lake Beach, was also pronounced dead.

The victims have been identified as Carmen Zeron, of Waukegan, and Angelica Juarez, of Round Lake Beach. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that both women died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
