There isn't much to say about air-cooled 911s that hasn't already been said. They're great to drive, and Porsche isn't making any more of them. But aren't you just a little curious what people thought about old 911s when they were new? MotorWeek got its hands on a brand new model in 1988 to find out how it stacked up.
The car tested in MotorWeek's review is a later-year G-body model, equipped with a 3.2-liter flat-six and Porsche's famously excellent G50 five-speed manual transmission. This was the model that preceded the 964, meaning it had no ABS, no all-wheel drive, and the same general shape of every 911 that came before it.
Of course, MotorWeek didn't very much like the dated interior and strange climate controls. But according to John Davis, the driving experience was like no other. Watch for yourself as MotorWeek puts the car through its paces at Roebling Road Raceway.
