19-year-old facing 60 charges in 23 Charlotte break-ins: CMPD

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 19-year-old is facing 60 charges in connection to multiple break-ins reported at commercial businesses, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced.

Authorities said Antonito Smith, 19, was arrested for repeat commercial breaking and entering incidents. Nearly one month ago, on March 27, CMPD officers responded to a commercial breaking and entering at a retail store along Park Road.

A suspect, later identified as Smith, was caught on camera breaking in and attempting to pry open an ATM inside the store.

At that time, CMPD officers responded to the area and after a chase, arrested Smith. Detectives were able to close 23 active cases with his arrest.

In the month of March alone, CMPD said officers in their Westover Division have made 19 arrests, including nine breaking and entering arrests and four larceny from auto arrests.
