17-year-old driver charged after pedestrian struck, critically injured in Binghamton

A Binghamton man was critically injured Tuesday when he was struck by a car on Court Street.

Binghamton police later arrested a 17-year-old from Johnson City on a felony charge of leaving the scene of serious physical injury in connection to the 4:30 p.m. incident.

Police said the 45-year-old pedestrian was crossing at Court and Water streets when he was struck by a vehicle turning onto Water Street. The vehicle then fled the area, police said.

Police said the pedestrian is in critical condition at a local hospital. Authorities did not release his identity.

Police said the vehicle and the suspect were located at a Conklin Avenue address. The teen was released on an appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later time, officials said.
