15-year-old girl killed in Mount Trashmore shooting, 18-year-old man in critical condition

VIRGINIA BEACH — Two teenagers were shot — one fatally — Saturday night at Mount Trashmore Park.

The victims were a 15-year-old girl who died from her injuries, and an 18-year-old male, according to police.

On Monday afternoon, police said the male victim was in critical, but stable, condition.

The incident began with a fight inside the park’s summer carnival area, police said. Off-duty Virginia Beach Sheriff’s deputies working secondary jobs at the event quickly broke up the scuffle, but it later resumed in a nearby parking lot in the 300 block of Edwin Drive, police said.

“At least one individual produced a firearm and fired shots,” according to a release from the department. The first call to 911 was received at about 8:30 p.m., the release said.

Both victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. The girl, who has not been identified, was later pronounced dead.

“The increase in youth gun violence that we are experiencing in our community is disturbing and reprehensible,” Police Chief Paul Neudigate said in a statement. “It is heartbreaking to continue to see young lives being lost and families torn apart by these senseless acts.”

Police do not have any suspect information at this time. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the department’s detective bureau at 757-385-4101, or anonymously through Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP/P3tips.com.
