12-year-old boy struck on Chippewa Street, suffers critical injuries

ST. LOUIS – A 12-year-old boy is hospitalized with critical injuries after a driver struck him Thursday evening on Chippewa Street.

The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Chippewa and Meramec streets near St. Louis’ Bevo neighborhood.

Investigators say the driver was heading westbound on Chippewa with the right-of-way when a pedestrian, later identified as the 12-year-old boy, ran out onto the road.

According to a summary report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the driver attempted to swerve and avoid the boy before the collision. The driver reportedly parked his car and checked on the boy until police arrived.

The boy was sent to the hospital in critical condition. The First District of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the crash.
