10-year-old boy hit by van while walking to school, airlifted to hospital

A 10-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after a van hit him on his way to Coral Springs Elementary on Tuesday morning, police say.

About 8 a.m., Coral Springs Police responded to reports of an accident at the intersection of Sample Road and Northwest 110th Avenue, according to Sgt. Ernesto Bruna. The boy was in the middle of crossing the crosswalk in order to head north towards the elementary school when he was hit by a white van heading east on Sample Road.

He was airlifted to Broward General with multiple injuries, but is currently in stable condition, Bruna said, thanks in part to first responders arriving quickly.

The man who was driving the van stayed at the scene, and police are still speaking with witnesses and investigating the crash to determine if the boy had the right-of-way and if the driver will be cited.
